Aspiring scientist, doctor declared Tokoh Nilam 2011

Students Nur Jannati Syakirin Ramli and Anand Phraseart Ma Noon were recently chosen as the state's Tokoh Nilam.
Nur Jannati, 11, of SK Trolak Selatan, Sungkai, who aspires to be a scientist, was the winner in the primary school category. Anand Phraseart, 16, of SM Taman Tasik, Taiping, who aims to study medicine won in the secondary school category.
They both received a trophy, a certificate and RM500.
The runners-up were Nor Adibah Ismail of SK Methodist Parit Buntar and Ahmad Luqman Adnan of SMK Sri Kurau, Bagan Serai. They received cash, books and a certificate each.
The event was organised by the state Education Department. There were 40 entries in the school category and 39 in the individual category.
State Education Department assistant director (technology division) Mohammad Yusof Mohamad said the winners were selected based on group discussions on community issues and presentation of poetry or songs. -- By Diana Yeoh
